Antonietta Font Family

Antonietta is Mauricio Astete Brito’s first typeface, which is inspired by the eccentricity of the rococo style and Queen Marie Antoinette’s wild personality. This project, supervised by Latinotype Team, was born from the idea of turning lettering into a digital typeface. Antonietta is based on the Copperplate style and inspired by the works of, among others, Hermann Zapf, Ricardo Rousselot and Herb Lubalin. The font comes in the following variants: Antonietta Script, Antonietta Caps, Antonietta Caps Illuminated, Antonietta Caps Shadow, Antonietta Caps Inline and Antonietta Ornaments. Antonietta Script is characterised by a big x-height, condensed proportions, and short ascenders and descenders, which can be modified by using the contextual alternates included in the set. Antonietta Caps, a companion font to the Script, is an all-caps typeface with rational structure and high contrast between thin and thick strokes. Antonietta is a 7-weight typeface well-suited for logotypes, labelling, headlines and short text. The Script variant contains a set of 878 characters that provide a wide range of contextual alternates to fit any project. The typeface also comes with an ‘Ornaments’ variant, which includes dingbats, borders and catchwords that complement the rest of the fonts.

Tangential is a distinctive modern sans in 3 weights which was born out of a simple idea: Beginning the project with a perfect circle to form the letter ‘o’, then squaring off one corner, ending up with a letterform I hadn't seen before for that character; this for me was enough motivation to attempt a full alphabet incorporating the angled styling wherever possible.
The Tangential style I envisaged for the family is complemented by the prominent use of negative space throughout, most apparent on the drop shaped ‘o’ which is a key feature of the typeface and a letterform I'm particularly pleased with.

Magendfret

Magendfret is a typeface that was designed very mechanically. However, it is also the optimal typeface for expressing soft warmth.
Magendfret was designed by constructing a “line.” That is: it is based on the concept “it is the combination of a straight line and a curve with a character.”
I made the character from the act of using and constructing a vector graphics editor, a mouse, and a keyboard. That, I thought when constructing it, should make neither a roman type nor italic type into a novel form, and a very general form. Once those characters were bit-map-ized, they traced again mechanically by the vector graphics editor. It became a soft impression by this work.
The very mechanical act of changing the thickness of a line uniformly constitutes the family. The thickness of seven patterns was created first and, finally it results in four patterns. Respectively, styles called Light, Regular, Medium, and Bold are attached as usual.
The name Magendfret is meaningless. It is an anagram of a certain words selected very arbitrarily.

The idea behind Rubis was to create a typeface with flawless curves, every letter and symbol has been designed in this idea, it can be seen in the terminals which finish the letter with an extreme fluidity. It’s a family which mixes classical influence such as the calligraphic terminaison and the sharpness of a modern typeface. The Regular and Medium are optimized for long text while the Light and Black can be useful for Title. The range of style give a good flexibility to this family. It’s an excellent family for editorial use.

The main story behind this font is that it was actually designed with a brush! It took around 60-70 A4 papers, a black thick brush and a couple cups of coffee! The Handbrushed font is fully my “sans serif handwriting” and I am really glad to be able to share it with you!
