A neo-grotesk with a bit more bite, this is Schizotype Grotesk. It’s not your usual grot; this is purely display typography. Notches cut deep into the letterforms and the thick/thin contrast isn't always where you might expect. It’s intended to be a challenging typeface - not beautiful or particularly ‘useful’ in any conventional sense, but it is at the very least interesting. In a world where everyone and their dog has their own grotesk offering, perhaps being interesting and that little bit different is in itself enough to give the face its utility.

I also had the artist Sigmar Polke in mind which explains the spelling, and so the two ideas simply morphed together.

Created by Bern-based designer Thomas Hirter, Lunica is a single line weight serif font available in four styles—thin, light, regular, and medium—for both italic and roman type. Inspired by the basic letterforms of the cinema subtitles during his years in Stockholm, Hirter added serifs to reflect the charm of the Swedish language. The serifs are abstracted with a geometric quarter circle, and they give the unique typeface a poetic character. Nonetheless, Lunica offers great legibility at small sizes.
