Architype Ingenieur Font Family

Architype Ingenieur was inspired by Wim Crouwel’s late 1950s exhibition catalogues and posters, for which he had created a few geometrically constructed, simplified letterforms. In the 1960 Venice Biennale Dutch entry poster, he drew grid-based letters with 45-degree angles for ‘olanda’, the style influenced by his boyhood fascination with naval lettering. A subtle variation appeared in the Stedelijk Museum catalogue for painter Jean Brusselmans. Several dot matrix versions followed. The themes and systems in these early letterforms are encapsulated in this new four weight family Architype Ingenieur.

Michael Harvey designed Ellington for Monotype in 1990. Ellington (named after jazz musician and composer, Duke Ellington) is a text typeface that has a definite calligraphic influence that creates a lively and interesting page. Harvey, a stone carver and lettering artist, is sensitive to the needs of graphic designers, and so designed Ellington with a tall x-height and narrow width, making it accommodating for both economy of space in short texts, and for display work as well.

Garoa Font Family

Inspired by the 70’s design, specially on Herb Lubalin’s work, the typeface Garoa is a rounded mechanical display font without optical compensations, ideal for large bodies. The medium weight has lower case for short texts, and the Bold versions have singular upper case glyphs, with some alternates (at least one alternate per letter – some with OpenType features some using caps on the keyboard). The Garoa Hacker Clube Bold version is free and contains no OpenType features, but the glyphs have the same design as on Garoa Bold.
