Monster Fonts
Monster Fonts
Originally influenced by the hand-lettered B-horror movie titling sequences, the Monster Fonts have proven to be as useful for a gala masquerade party as they are for a bottle of Liquid Smoke. After wearing out the pause button on his VCR’s remote control, the House type development team also looked to Brigantine Castle commercials, Misfits album covers, Channel 29’s Creature Double Feature and Aurora monster model kits. We sent our sketches to David Coulson, who completed the alphabets with a rare treat of India ink, rubber cement and illustration board. The original limited-edition package was based on the Aurora monster model kits and included one of the first commercial paintings by House artist Adam Cruz. His spooky portrait of Lon Chaney’s Phantom was approved by none other than the famous horror movie actor’s grandson, Ron Chaney.
